Kids with Autism can be very visual. Many times they need pictures to help lead them through their daily routine.
Being in an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) classroom, having appropriate teaching materials that fit students' needs can be very rare.
Students with Autism can be very visual learners. They learn better by seeing pictures, words, having tactile things and not always by a lecture or hearing someone talk. Sometimes students with Autism can have a hard time processing words that are spoken. They process information better when they can see pictures, words, and hold things in their hands. There are 7 students in my classroom who are visual learners and need this software to help them get through struggles of daily life.
My Project
My students with Autism rely on pictures to help them get through their day. Boardmaker is a software that is used throughout the US for people with special needs. By getting this software, we can use pictures to help us daily in our education lives. Whether it's a picture saying "sit down," "stand up," or having picture of directions like 1st cut, 2nd glue, 3rd paste. These pictures are also used for students to communicate.
By getting this software students will be able to ask for things they want and/or need- like food or drinks, tell adults if they are sick and what hurts, tell adults things that are bothering them- like noise or lights, and communicate with other students around them. These pictures can be used outside of school and in their home life and out in the community.
This project will help improve our classroom by giving us a software that will helps students communicate with teachers, staff, and other students.
Staff, teachers, and other students will also be able to use these pictures to communicate better with my students. Many times kids with Autism respond better to visuals and pictures than they do to spoken words. This software will help my students communicate not only at school, but at home and as well as out in the community if needed.
