We live in rural Maine, in a highly economically disadvantaged community. My students are inquisitive and engaged in their own learning. They love to learn new things, investigate and explore.
My fourth and fifth grade students are ready, willing and able to come to school to learn despite the many obstacles they may have.
In spite of these challenges, our students come to school prepared to learn because they know we will always be there to take care of them emotionally and academically.
So many of our students have never played a board game with their peers or families. We hope to allow them the opportunity to do this. After our students learn to play these games, we plan to include some of the lower grades. It would be great to start a conversation among our students.
Can you imagine not knowing how to play the games we played while growing up?
With these games, we plan to have board game day and invite the parents in to help teach their children these games.
The ultimate goal would be to have the students and their parents get games of their own to play as a family at home.
