Board Games, Card Games, Math Games, Literacy Games
My students need educational games such as Don't Let the Bugs Fall!, Floor Puzzle, Candy Land, Memory, AlphaMagnets, and Tangle Therapy to learn through play.
Colors games, shapes games, and taking turns games. We like to learn, we learn through play. We like to learn and play all day! We love our school, our teachers are fun. But, some of our things are worn out and done! So Madams, Sirs, and Donor Elves, choose us, choose us, put fun on our shelves.
These children attend a public school and are in a Title 1, pre-k classroom.
They bring bright smiles and warm hugs to school every day; they are a joy! Many of the children live in homes where neither parent has earned a high school diploma and the family income is at or below the poverty level. Most of these children are experiencing a developmental delay. And some of our children face the challenge of speaking English as their second language.
My Project
Children learn best through play and by being actively involved. These games will not only teach pre-academic skills such as colors, numbers, letter recognition, and more, but also social-emotional skills. These games will teach the children how to take turns, build attention span while waiting their turn, and learn what are appropriate ways to express frustration and/or disappointment. While the children are playing these games, the teachers will have opportunities to have language-rich conversations with the children.
Research has shown that children living in poverty generally come to school having heard far fewer words and interacted far fewer times in language-based interactions.
These games will provide a fun, natural way to infuse pre-academic skills and a language-rich environment. These activities will provide the children opportunities to bridge the gaps in their learning and development.
