This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school houses the entire 6th grade for our large school district. That's around 620 students. Our students come from all areas of our city and represent a very diverse population with most receiving free or reduced lunch. We have students from many different cultures speaking a variety of languages.
I teach English classes in the library every two weeks, so I get the pleasure of seeing almost 600 students in a two-week span. Along with being a very diverse population of students culturally and economically, we are also a school that has a wide range of learning abilities.
My Project
We need board games, card games, and puzzles that will be used to create a Board Game Cafe in the library media center of our sixth-grade school. This cafe will be used as an incentive to reward students for good behavior and completed work. It can also be used for Lunch with a Friend where students sit and eat with kids that need a friend. Our school uses an online learning program in which students are on computers all day every day. This will disconnect them from that technology so they can have face to face social time with others.
