My Students

Our school is a health and nutrition school in a city district of New York. The school serves grades pre-Kindergarten through three. We are a tight-knit school where the students love to be in school. The students need fun and engaging activities to foster their love of learning at a young age.

Many of my students come from immigrant homes where English is not the first language.

This has not hindered their enthusiasm and curiosity. They have questions and ideas but are always in need of resources for inspiration and reference.

My Project

Having recently given birth, I've seen the amazing qualities of board books! I love using board books to read to my baby daughter. A light bulb went off in my brain and I thought--wouldn't it be fantastic if our school (an Early Childhood School) had a board book lending library for families. Many of our families have multiple children at home, many are babies and toddlers.

Our board book lending library would be for families to borrow books to read to their young ones at home!

Our students and families can read to their younger siblings at home! It's great to promote family time and literacy! The board books are especially great for little ones because of the hardy material. The list of board books here include books written by authors of color and greatly reflect our community.
