Dr. Wade from Baltimore MD is requesting a class trip through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students the opportunity to experience the allure, magic, and timelessness of the Broadway production of To Kill A Mockingbird.

My students are intelligent, creative, inquisitive, and wonderfully gifted souls. When given the opportunity to shine, they always rise to the occasion. As an English teacher, it is becoming increasingly hard to hold their attention when competing with Netflix, social media, and online music streaming services. As an academic subject, at a vocational high school, it is not only important for me to guide students' learning by preparing them to become critical readers, thinkers, and writers, I also would like to expose them to diverse learning experiences.
The most memorable learning moments do not always happen in a classroom, but in the experiences that stay with you always.
While I believe that reading allows us to see the humanity in each other, there is something about the experience of attending a live performance that is unparallel. The energy, the anticipation, the drama of being in an audience watching a live performance is one that my students will always remember. It will also help to make a novel that seems so unrelatable become more relatable as the themes are timeless. Therefore, I want to provide a culturally enriching opportunity for my students.
Students attending this trip will be provided with a culturally enriching experience that would not otherwise occur within the confines of our classroom. Attending this Broadway production will expose students to the timelessness of the classic novel To Kill A Mockingbird in ways that reading the novel or even watching the movie just won't do. Leaving the confines of our classroom to help bring this classic alive will help students to truly understand the importance of being able to put themselves in another person's shoes. Students will benefit from this trip because they will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the society we live in, develop tolerance and empathy, increase their critical thinking, and add a new cultural experience that will also help to inspire them to always do what is right even if they are the only ones doing so.
