Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I feel like the luckiest teacher in the world when I think about the awesome kids I get to spend time with and learn from every day! My students are sweet, compassionate, leaders, and always take on challenges with a growth mindset! Students at my school have a love of learning, are curious about the world around them, and are avid readers! All of my students are enrolled in our school's Dual Language program! They know how important being global citizens is and how diverse our world is.
"Every student can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way." ~ George Evan.
For all of the students in my school, I believe this to be true. Each student that comes through our door has a diverse set of needs and different learning style. It is very important to me that I provide my students with engaging lessons that meet their individual needs and learning styles.
My Project
Each year, 20 books are chosen for the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List. Schools and libraries around the state participate in the program, encouraging students to read a minimum of five books from the list. In January, students vote for their favorite title.
Reading Texas Bluebonnets books is a unique way to encourages reading for pleasure for students in grades 3-6!
Each of my students read 5 or more Bluebonnet books this year and were able to vote in January! They were so excited to pick their favorite and find out who the winner was a few weeks. Every time we went to the school library these books were checked out.
I would love to get next school years list of nominated books for my classroom library so that my class can have more access to these books. This will help my current students get ready for next school year's nominees and be prepared for next school year.
