My students need the opportunity to expand their critical thinking skills while enhancing their understanding of classroom content. My students are asking to be challenged and wanting to expand their knowledge so that it connects to the real world.
The middle school students would gain the opportunity to enhance their critical thinking skills through this project.
Any student would be allowed to come and use these materials to be creative and expand their critical thinking skills.
I will be promoting critical thinking in our school through this donorschoose.org project.
We live in rural northern South Dakota. Students, parents and our community are actively involved. This allows for all stakeholders to be active within our school system.
My Project
My students need Spheros and Bloxels kit to aid it the ability to create and code. The Spheros and Sphero Books will allows the students the needed practice for critical thinking and using logic to program the robot to complete various tasks. Students are currently 'fighting' over our one Sphero, this project would allow for multiple students to work on their Sphero and complete a task. I want my students to see that there many ways to complete a task. Multiple Spheros will allow multiple students to think logically and analyze their coding and success.
The Bloxels kits and Spheros will allow for my students enhance their critical thinking while engaging in 21 Century Skills.
The Bloxels kit will allow students to develop a video game based upon their interests. Students will have to plan on a theme and a purpose of their game. Bloxels is built one screen at a time, students will have to create a plan and expand their thinking to what is next instead of the "right now".
This unit will make a difference in my students' learning through the continued practice of assisting with their mindset and gaining of 21st Century Skills. The patience and planning required with Bloxels and Spheros will help my students to learn programming and from failure. In rural South Dakota, this project will give my students the needed skill set to be successful in the life we can only imagine.
