All students have the power to CREATE! As a turn-around urban school that is inclusive of all students, we encourage and foster each student's sense of wonder, adventure, and creativity.
The library is a place where students can quench their thirst to learn through books, technology, and creating authentic projects in the libraries Creation Station.
Our school serves students in ECE through 5th grade. We are an urban school that serves a variety of needs students that come from high poverty to students that have experienced trauma. However, all of our students love to learn and love the library.
My Project
Over the past year our students have discovered the power of a MakerSpace in our school library as a place to grow their interests and imagination in science, technology, engineering, art and math. Having more STEAM based materials to explore these areas will help students in all areas of learning. Students will have the opportunity to create and explore with circuits, explore the magnets, and continue to explore and learn from a variety of hands on materials.
Students are given challenges that emphasize collaboration and problem solving.
Young students may have a challenge to create their names using magna-tiles while other students maybe challenged to build a lego mural of the sun, moon and stars to support their unit of study. All students at our school come to the library weekly and the younger students have learning challenges with the materials in the creation station that tie into their current learning. Student who experience the creation station see it as a place to take a break and blow off some S.T.E.A.M while learning.
