My students need Leveled Books, such as First Little Readers, Lakeshore Word Family Readers, and Eyewitness Nonfiction Readers to read and keep at home.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Kindergarten students are eager learners who attend school in a high-poverty STEM school district in Texas. Over 85% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. All of my students receive free breakfast. My students are sweet, happy children who are excited about learning. Kindergarten begins the foundation of learning academic and social skills which will carry the students successfully through their academic years. I want to provide resources to help my students have a successful year in Kindergarten!
My Project
My Kindergarten students entered my classroom a few weeks ago at varying levels of Kindergarten and school readiness. Some students know all their letters and sounds while others know only a few. Many of my students are already reading! My students need leveled books of their own to help instill a love of reading and to grow as readers.
Having their own books to read at home will give my Kindergarten students confidence and pride!
These leveled readers will allow my students to practice reading and blending sounds and reinforce their knowledge of sight words, as they read at home to family members. The First Little Readers, Nonfiction and Fiction Sight-Word Readers, Word Family Readers, and Nonfiction Emergent Readers will help each student gain and sustain a strong reading foundation. I know that getting leveled books into the hands of my Kindergarten students and their families will impact their learning tremendously and help them to be successful readers!
