My Students

For some students, traditional classrooms are not a good fit, leaving them feeling frustrated and defeated. Montessori classrooms provides a fantastic alternative, focusing child-directed learning through self-correcting materials, outdoor classroom experiences, music and rhythm, Social and Emotional Learning, and FUN. All of my students are precious and I seek to inspire these wonderful first, second, and third graders to reach their full potential.

The pandemic of the past few years has taken its toll on the emotional well-being of our students, and they need support in skills that lead to success beyond just academic growth.

They need to know that they are capable of hard things and can "bloom where they're planted."

Dr. Maria Montessori wrote, “…All things are part of the universe and are connected to each other to form one whole unity. This idea helps the mind of the child to become fixed, to stop wandering in an aimless quest for knowledge. He is satisfied, having found the universal centre of himself with all things.” (To Educate the Human Potential, p. 6) Our class focuses on the interconnection of all subjects and applies our learning to our own lives.

My Project

The pandemic has led to children being more "plugged in" than ever before. We know that this has a detrimental effect on their social and emotional growth.

Many studies show the link between time with nature and good mental health!

I will provide my students with the opportunity to connect with nature through growing food from seed to harvest. Not only does gardening provide connection to nature, but it also provides hands on science learning and builds patience, perseverance, and hard work. Also, growing plants provides a sense of HOPE!

The greenhouses our class will acquire through this project will allow us to grow plants year-round. The lighting systems will provide indoor growing possibilities, letting us soak in the joy of nature, even in the cold of Winter. We will make connections between the growth of our plants and our own growth and the life-cycle of humans and other animals.
