My Students

My students walk into my classroom with wonder. They are ready to learn. I want to keep that excitement alive in them. To do that, I need to keep them engaged and wondering. I am starting a new program in our district teaching Young Fives. This program will serve students who turn 5 from May - December. It will allow them to have two years of kindergarten and to have a solid start in their educational experience.

I teach at a Title I school in Michigan and due to the program I am teaching will have students from all over the district in my classroom.

I will have a diverse group from all walks of life and hope to instill in them a sense of community and a love for learning. I also want to give them a hands-on learning experience that will help them to better understand foundational skills in both reading and math!

My Project

Block play offers an open-ended, creative and valuable play and learning experience for all children. It offers children the ability to explore, take apart and put back together any block creation they can think of! These blocks would help extend our block play. Currently, we have a small set of wooden blocks that students love and use daily.

Block play helps students build imagination, creativity, math skills, self-expression, and problem-solving.

All students have access to these wonderful tools because blocks can be anything! They can be the market down the street, an airport, or a building in a far off land. I know my students would use these in many amazing and inventive ways and they would become an important part of our classroom.
