My school has a diverse population which includes students representing over 20 different countries. We serve approximately 300 children from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds which creates some unique needs. It is centrally located in our town and has a rich history. A large population of our students come to us with English as a second language.
We take pride in our diversity and embracing our multicultural differences.
We love our close-knit community of learners, staff, and parents.
I work really hard to build trusting relationships with the students at my school. One of my primary jobs is to help students work to have control over their emotions and be respectful friends. This past year what started as a whimsical approach to something fun at recess turned into a weekly celebration of self expression. Students began to expect and look forward to Block Rocker Fridays named, after the first speaker I first purchased. Each Friday we would gather during recess to listen to music and sing together passing the microphone. Unfortunately the speaker no longer works and we are in need of a new one.
Block Rocker Fridays empower young voices to express themselves in a fun and creative way through music.
I have been very excited to see the way music brings the students at my school together. Additionally, adverse behaviors have declined as students are engaged in music and relationship building.
