Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are elementary grade levels Kindergarten through 6th grade. 5 out of 14 of the classes are special education classes. The community the school serves is predominantly low-income in an inner-city area that is becoming gentrified.
My students are bright, gifted, curious, and creative.
Ironically, the school is located within a burgeoning arts district, but has a small arts budget because of the small size of the school. I want to give the students the opportunity to complete with other students from larger schools that have bigger budgets.
My Project
With these materials, students will be able to have hands on experience using block printing materials to create unique, collaborative collages. In response to observing textures within their surroundings, students will work collaboratively to create mono prints. After they create the mono prints, students will cut up the prints into quarters and exchange portions of their prints with their classmates.
Once each student has at least 6 different colors and "texture" pattern prints, they will use scissors to cut geometric and organic shapes and arrange/glue them to create a contemporary composition.
In then end, students will have a composition that is unique, inspired by their surrounding, and made collaboratively with their classmates.
