Help me give my students supplies to make printed pillows! We will carve designs using the Easy-to-Cut linoleum then use fabric ink to print our designs onto canvas squares. We will then hand stitch and stuff the squares.
My art students are so creative. They always amaze me with the things they create. I teach many different subjects within the area of art and this DonorsChoose request will directly impact students in all of my classes.
Art is such an important subject for students to be able to explore.
It can help reduce stress and allow students to express their thoughts, values, and emotions without judgment. These materials will help me achieve this goal.
Over 50% of students at my school are economically disadvantaged and it's the most diverse High School in the district. They have such heart and creativity. My goal is to bring them quality materials that will last for years to come and allow them to continue to further explore their creativity.
I am so excited for this unique process! With this project students will use a block printing technique and sewing skills to create custom decorative pillows!
Students will design a pattern or illustrative image which they will then carve out of the Easy-to-Cut linoleum.
Once their design is carved out of the linoleum they will then ink their stamps with fabric ink and press their inked stamps onto canvas squares creating a colorful personalized print! After the ink dries students will then stitch two squares together, learning a basic running stitch and a whip stitch. We will stuff the interior with the polyester fill and then stitch the remaining section closed.
When students are all done they will have a printed decorative pillow with their own custom design!
