I am a resource teacher at two elementary schools. I help students who are behind in their classes to learn at their own pace to become the best they can be. I am also a first year teacher with very limited supplies. My students need fun, exciting, and educational ways to learn. Because they are behind in their grades I want to help them learn many different ways to achieve their goals.
They are bright children who just need things taken a little slower and more in-depth.
Many of my older students 4th-6th grades are on a first grade learning level. My personal goal is to see them achieve at least one grade level jump by the end of the year.
My personal favorite thing about teaching is watching the kids learn and doing things they thought were not possible.
My students are in resource class to receive extra help. In math they really need hands on manipulative in order to fully grasp the concept I am teaching. They all are having difficulty with place value and using base ten blocks will help them understand the difference between 1's, 10's, 100's, and 1,000's. I feel using base ten blocks will boost their self confidence and allow them to be able to fully understand place value. They need to be able to fully see that 100 block has 100 squares, 10 is 10, 1 is 1. Having math manipulative in the classroom will greatly help.
