Our students come from a diversity of backgrounds; we have open enrollment from our district and surrounding areas. Our ESL classrooms include native speakers of English, Spanish, and Arabic and the students greatly benefit from blended learning opportunities.
Our school is entering the third year with a Media and Performing Arts designation--the only such designation at the elementary level in our district!
We are located within a large urban district and work closely with arts partners to provide diverse learning experiences for the students we work with.
We are also a Title I school, so many of the families are economically disadvantaged and our school has a small enrollment, which creates funding challenges for our campus.
My Project
Because funding challenges are ever-present, adequate technology that enhances learning is not always present in our classroom. Electronic systems that "live" in our classroom and can be used in a variety of ways, such as iPads and iPods, allow greater opportunities for individualized learning.
This iPad will provide diverse and available technology for students consistently, which is critical to the development of 21st Century Learning.
Technology is used for reading and math at this time, including the extension of our new reading adoption and providing real-life, hands-on opportunities to increase understanding of new concepts through reading and filmmaking.
