My students need 6 upgraded mouthpieces because we were selected to perform at the state music educators convention.
This project expired on February 4, 2013.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
We are an inner city band program in Richmond, KY. We have a very large program and a very small budget.
Our students attend middle school in one of the oldest buildings in our county.
Most of the instruments they play are either handed down from parents, or are handed down from the high school. Even when the students are well off enough or rent to own their instrument, they often end up playing on the beginner mouthpieces and accessories that are included. While this is a challenge for us to overcome, it hasn't stopped us from becoming one of the largest and most successful middle school bands in the state. This year, we are one of three middle school bands to be invited to perform at the state music convention.
This equipment upgrade will allow my students to expand their potential in their young musical careers. I want them to have every opportunity to develop and mature as young musicians and as young people. These mouthpieces will improve their sound and performance drastically, especially as we prepare for a performance in front of a majority of the music educators in our state. I will then be able to take up the materials for future students to use.
As I look at other band programs across the state, some have multiple teachers, large budgets, and even fully funded private lesson's programs.
In my program, it is just the students and I. They work hard to accomplish what they do, and deserve the same opportunities as students who go to larger school's or maybe come from a home life that is a little better off.
