Our elementary school students are diverse. 10% are English Language Learners, 12% have disabilities, and 12% are economically disadvantaged. We have students who travel to our school from Boston in the METCO program. Our school is a Title 1 school.
Our students love books.
Daily they ask for books we do not have in the library. This year the first grade started a new writing project where students researched a topic they are interested in. Many students wanted to research an animal. The students really need books at their reading level.
My Project
Our library learners love animals. They love books. They really love books about animals! Many of our animal books are at a third through fifth-grade reading level. Our library really needs lower level animals books so students can feel successful in reading and research.
Blastoff Readers: Super Cute Animals are level one books, just right for our K-2 readers.
The books have basic facts and easy-to-read text. The students will learn about the animal's habitat, physical features, diet, and life cycles.
Because they are library books, they will be read and re-read by many students for years to come.
