My Students
Most of my students come from low income families. They possess a love for learning and gaining knowledge. They enter the room so excited for whatever the day will bring. There are several who have not had dinner the night before or made it themselves while helping take care of younger siblings, yet took the time to do their homework and are so eager to ask questions, and fill their knowledge cups.
We have many student with sensory issues.
They are struggling with understanding what their body needs to be successful. They are so young that they cannot communicate what they need so it comes across as a behavior disruption. We want to change this and make them feel successful and not like "a bad kid," as many of them have referred to themselves.
My Project
The Special Education Team at our elementary school wants to help all of our students be successful. We are looking for funding to put sensory paths throughout our main building. This will allow all students the benefit of being able to take a brain break in a non-over stimulating way.
We need to stop trying to fit every student into the same mold.
All kids are different and we need to focus on the differences that make them successful. Being able to use these sensory paths will not only allow them to take a break, but it will not cause a disruption to their education.
