My students need more engaging read alouds to go along with our Guided Readers Curriculum. These read alouds will help my students develop strong literacy skills, such as: fluency, comprehension, phonemic awareness and interactive writing.
I teach a group of Kindergarten students; the majority of them come from low-income families, which means many of them deal with challenges at home. One of the challenges is that these students are limited to resources at home, which is why it is important to provide them with developmentally appropriate materials in their school environment.
The students in my classroom are extremely hard working and come to school each and every day eager to learn and succeed.
I strive to provide my students with a welcoming and comfortable learning environment filled with endless opportunities to explore, create, and learn in many ways.
Every child loves to read a good story and it's even better when they can relate to it. Our schools current reading curriculum does not provide engaging read alouds for my students, because the stories are outdated, which makes it difficult for my students to relate to.
My classroom is in need of these modern and engaging stories to go along with our guided reading program.
Members of my teaching team have found and purchased a supplemental reading program on their own that utilizes engaging read alouds that will allow my students to develop strong literacy skills. These books, which are a part of the reading program, will enhance my students reading, because they will be able to choose books to help them enjoy whole group and independent reading time. I strive to strengthen my students reading ability at a young age and the best way to do that is by providing them with engaging stories that will make them want to read more. These read alouds will give my students the opportunity to make text to self connections, which will help them better understand the stories we are reading.
I will use these read alouds on a daily basis in my classroom, so that my students can grow to love reading.
