Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students all come from varying backgrounds and countries. Many of them speak 2 or 3 languages and were born outside of the United States. All of my students come from a low socio economic neighborhood.
Because of the challenges that they face, they have many needs that we are working on everyday in class.
They are working on foundational skills and increasing their vocabulary in each lesson to be able to achieve mastery of the information and of the English language.
My Project
While I am working with small groups of students, my other students are doing independent work or centers. During this time it is much more difficult to add scaffolding/visual support to their independent work. They are normally answering higher level questioning about stories/ texts that we read whole group, and many students struggle adding in details from them.
Using Chromebooks will add this necessary support to allow the students to be able to reach even higher.
Many of my students are learning English and I could add in supports that will allow them to access the curriculum at each of their individual levels. This will greatly improve their confidence and sky rocket their learning.
Also, these Chromebooks will allow them to start to master skills necessary to compete in this ever evolving world. They will have the ability to increase their knowledge of technology which will improve their education in the rest of their elementary career and beyond.
