This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My wrestling team is full of energy and excitement for our future. In the past, we faced a ton of challenges getting uniforms, equipment, and even a mat for the wrestlers. Despite these challenges, we had a record number of wrestlers qualify for the state tournament. My wrestlers are more excited than ever! In the past, we couldn’t get anyone to show up for off-season workouts.
Now we have half of the team here twice a week in March to exercise and improve their skills when the season doesn’t start again until October.
My wrestlers are excited again, and they want to make a run for a title, despite our lack of gear and supplies. We have 25 wrestlers ready and excited for a new season.
My Project
I still believe our wrestlers deserve new uniforms, singlets and knee pads. Earlier this year, your generosity helped fund new gold singlets for our wrestlers that they can be proud to wear as they win more than ever!
Thinking about the future, I want to make sure that the team has more than one uniform so that we can maximize the life of all the garments.
If the wrestlers wear the same uniform every time, they will wear through faster and we will need to ask for new uniforms again.
As a school with a diverse student population, it can be difficult to ask parents to pay for uniforms. Some parents have the money, many don’t. I hope that we can use DonorsChoose to help get these kids some new uniforms and to let them feel a sense of pride anytime they win in a bracket and appear in a championship match under the bright lights!
