My students need prizes for participating in a reading challenge. Students in 4th and 5th grade are participating in a Black Panther themed reading challenge that will culminate in a celebration for parents and students.
My students are fourth and fifth graders in special education. My students spend all day in my classroom (except for PE, Recess and Lunch) and need a safe, inviting, well-structured environment to learn.
Our school is in West Oakland and serves low-income students of color, including students from immigrant and refugee families.
These children have diverse backgrounds and disabilities, and experience a variety of challenges at home or in shelters, in their communities, and at school. These challenges sometimes contribute to behaviors that make learning difficult.
My Project
After months of successful reading challenges in my classroom, we are taking the challenge school-wide. The fourth and fifth grade students at LES are engaged in a reading challenge that will culminate in an event for parents and students to enjoy the film, food/drinks and prizes on June 1st.
The students have been working hard to complete reading logs to gain entry to a Black Panther themed celebration.
Reading logs are differentiated to ensure all students can participate. The Marvel Lego Kit will go to the top reader while the other prizes will be offered in drawings so all readers will get chances to win.
