Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are determined to succeed! Many of them come from low-income households where life struggles often outweigh the benefits of education. They are looking for a way to make life better for themselves and for their families, and they know that education is the way for that to happen.
My students are eager learners who know that hard work and dedication will help them be successful, no matter what life throws at them.
I want to help guide them through that pathway to success!
My Project
Musical performances for the community are a valuable outlet for students to be able to utilize the skills learned during classtime and demonstrate it to their parents and community members. My students are always asking to have a performance in the dark, and these materials will allow me to create a fun glow-in-the-dark experience for them to show off their knowledge and skills.
I want to create a drumming routine for my students to show the rhythms and techniques they learned in class and transfer them to a performance using black lights and fluorescent tape and paper.
We will wrap the drum sticks with the fluorescent tape to make them visible in the dark, and then paint on the faces of the performers to make a fun accent to the performance. We will use the fluorescent poster board to make the decorations to put on black butcher paper and then turn out the lights and add the black lights for a night of musical magic! These materials will create a fun night that performers and observers will love and remember!
