Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

FOR A KING CELEBRATE...... Black History Month is a time where we listen, learn and give thanks for the individuals who paved the way for us today.

I work at a Title 1 school with children who are bright but do not always have the necessary exposure or materials readily at hand.

They are a joy to work with and are able to come up with and develop such bright ideas. I have mostly boys in my room, but the girls are always an added bonus and allow for the classroom to be evenly yolked.

My Project

My students need poster board as well as colored pencils to create their black history project posters in February. The 2 multicultural book collections will also help guide discussion on famous people of color. These items will allow the students to create posters about the various individuals that they learn about throughout the year and during Black History Month. They will be able to use these posters during our presentation and will give real life meaning to children who may have never heard of these individuals before. The books will give them a sense of community and belonging that will show them that cultures from all around the world have worked hard to help their people, group, and culture make significant strides to get where they are today.

This project will allow students to see a bigger broader world than what currently surrounds their everyday lives.

Typically things that are not in our face or that we hear about very little we have no background knowledge about. Allowing the students to learn about these amazing individuals will deepen their knowledge and hopefully instill a sense of pride for those who have come before them and to think about the impact their lives can possibly have one day.
