Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students attend a school where they are encouraged to be bright and highly educated and are motivated to be their best daily. My students are willing to learn anything that is presented before them, who happen to live in a high poverty area. My students lack books that reflect their history. They are constantly facing many challenges both in school and at home. Despite their circumstances my student face, they are always ready and eager to learn new material.

My Project

Black History Month is every February. However, teaching and reading about Black History should not just be in the month of February. I would love for my student to read books that teach them about their history throughout the year. The majority of my students are African American and by having books in their class library would improve self-images as well as give them a better picture of their lives and their history. The more books that can be provided will only educate them more and make them well-rounded citizens and critical thinkers which is encouraged daily in my classroom.
