Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a diverse and low-income district. Many of the families have parents who work multiple jobs, are single-parent households, and rely on the school for their meals. Most of the students, however, have limited access to books--let alone books with characters who look like them.
My classroom is a place where students know they are safe and loved.
In our town, violence and poverty fill many children's thoughts and homes, and they deserve to feel welcome and safe during remote learning.
My Project
I teach at a school with a very diverse student population with nearly all children from low income households. It is important that my students see characters that look like themselves in the books we read.
I want my students to read books that reflect and celebrate their culture.
The materials and supplies in this project will celebrate the diversity represented in my classroom and show Black and Hispanic children that their stories matter! With your donation, I will be able to provide my students with books that show that their cultures are important.
