Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom is a dynamic place! We always have a variety of projects happening concurrently. On any given day, some students may be illustrating the odes they wrote while others may be using the overhead projector to share the strategies they applied while solving a rigorous math problem.
Our students are curious, creative and kind and they love a good challenge!
Our classroom creed, borrowed from Ohio educator Tony Keefer, is as follows: "We will ask thoughtful questions. We will read voraciously. We will write voluminously. We will think deeply. We will work to be better today than we were yesterday." Our city is an inner urban suburb of Boston with a diverse population. While life in this urban environment isn't always easy, our students' desire to know more and do more trumps any and all hardships.
My Project
The resources we are requesting represent a cross-section of classroom needs and interests. With the toner, students will be able to continue printing out their writing projects. With the art craft paper, students will be able to display their work in an aesthetically-pleasing way. With the overhead coins, students will be able to count money and make change as they learn how to navigate the world of the consumer. With the packing tape, we'll be able to repair the well-loved books in our classroom library that need to be fixed from having been read so often! With the math workbook, we'll be able to practice problem-solving.
Having materials that creatively and appropriately aid the learning process sends a message to my students that they are important and deserve the best resources available.
