My Students
My students are an amazing group of diverse learners in Portland, Maine. We have students from all economic circumstances; many of whom are English Language Learners. We are in an urban environment located on the coast of Maine. Students at our school need rich learning opportunities, facilitated by knowing teachers. Due to the various backgrounds of our student body, we are in need of materials and tools to narrow the experiential gap of our students especially those tools which strengthen language development. Our school is an important part of our local community and strengthening our community connection is a priority.
My Project
This project is about reading and community. Many students have birthdays that are just another day but I want to help change that at Reiche School. The goal of this project is for students to receive a book to add to their at home library. They will be able to pick what book they want from the decorated bins. This is also a time for the students to have another positive interaction with a teacher on their special day. We all want to feel celebrated and these students deserve it.
Not only will every student get a book on their birthday but they will be celebrated as part of the larger school community! Students should feel valued and honored so thank you for considering donating to my project.
