My Students

My students are an amazing group of diverse learners in Portland, Maine. We have students from all economic circumstances; many of whom are English Language Learners. We are in an urban environment located on the coast of Maine. Students at our school need rich learning opportunities, facilitated by knowing teachers. Due to the various backgrounds of our student body, we are in need of materials and tools to narrow the experiential gap of our students especially those tools which strengthen language development. Our school is an important part of our local community and strengthening our community connection is a priority.

My Project

My students needs a book on their Birthday to celebrate them and their love of reading. This project includes a cart and bins to hold all of the fabulous books that the students will get to choose from.

This project will increase the number of books in the hands of students while increasing the positive school environment.

Some students do not receive a gift on their birthday and this project would ensure that they do. I feel that we need to make a greater effort to put books in the hands of students that they get to keep and add to their personal libraries. Who doesn't want a book? No one.
