I am blessed to teach third grade at a wonderful Title I school in northeast North Carolina. Our students are loving, hard working, easily motivated, and care about each other and their success! They thrive on competitions and reaching goals set for them throughout the school year.
Our students get excited, work harder, and stay more engaged in their academics when they are able to collaborate and work together with technology to accomplish a task.
We are a diverse school consisting of students and families from various backgrounds and cultures as well as Coast Guard families. They are each unique and have a special way of winning our hearts with their kindness and thoughtfulness. We have truly become a family!
My Project
This year, our school is placing a greater focus on self selected reading during the school day and also during take home reading within the homes in hopes of increasing excitement and reading proficiency K-5. One way we hope to increase excitement for reading and writing is by putting a book and a special pencil in each of our students' hands on their birthday!
These 12 Birthday Coupon Booklets will allow each student to self select a $5.00 book from Scholastic on their special day to read and keep at home forever.
The colorful Happy Birthday pencils will also allow for all students to be able to self select a special pencil to use during their writing small group stations. These 12 coupon books consist of 32 coupons in each booklet worth a $5 free book. Allowing students to self select their books, will ensure students are excited about and eager to read the book they receive. Orders will be placed in advance by the teacher and students will receive them on their special day! The best part is they get to choose the book and most likely with Scholastic Book Club prices, they will be able to choose more than one. This will put books in their hands and homes. We're super excited about this project and hope to see it come to life for our students!
