Help me give my students an opportunity to truly see how beautiful nature can be by purchasing a class set of binocular.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My school is located in Stockbridge, GA. Over 80% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. This project will target a special group of students that are members of the Birdwatching Club. As the Personalized Learning Coach, I work with the entire school to promote meaningful and authentic learning experiences focused on students' interests.
Despite any issues that may occur in my students' lives, each of them possesses a uniqueness that outshines his/ her situation!
As the school's Personalized Learning Coach, I have the opportunity to interact with most of the students in the school. The students in the Birdwatching Club are so unique! Their love for nature is contagious! When I see them running around the school trying to locate birds and making sure the bird feeders are filled with food, it truly warms my heart! Students that are a part of the Birdwatching Club truly LOVE nature!
Ms. H is a teacher at Stockbridge Elementary School. Each year she sponsors the school's Birdwatching Club. As one of the school's instructional coaches, I have enjoyed watching Ms. H and her students run around the school to observe, discuss, and learn about the birds that have been drawn to the birdfeeders around our school.
One day this year the students entered the school looking a little disappointed after a birdwatching session.
I asked Ms. H if the students viewed any birds and she said the students were not able to view any because the birds were too far away.
When I heard this, I knew I had to do something. I asked Ms. H if she thought binoculars would be beneficial for her club and she stated this tool would truly enhance students' ability to view the beauty of nature.
If the Birdwatching Club had binoculars this would allow the students to truly see nature "up close and personal". Sometimes the club draws pictures of the birds they view. The binoculars would allow students to have a clearer view of the birds which could lead to a deeper understanding of information Ms. H is teaching. By having additional birdfeeders, students will be able to attract more birds which will give students additional opportunities to observe, discuss and learn about birds. The materials in this project will also help sustain the club in the years to come.
