Curious, enthusiastic, and creative; my students love learning and challenges. They come in every morning excited about what they are going to learn or be able to work on. Their sense of community and love for one another is evident in how well they work together and share ideas. Most of my students come from low socio-economic backgrounds and do not get the experiences most other children do outside of school. I try to provide an environment and opportunities in their learning and their lives so they will continue to be life-long learners and well-rounded members of their communities.
Our school magnet program is STREAM - science, technology, Reading, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
The students in my class truly embrace this program and all the potential it holds for them. They look forward to the plans we make for our learning adventures. They value the materials we have to work with as part of their exploration.
We try to make everyday positive and fun!
Before COVID-19 sent us all into quarantine, my 1st graders were excited everyday about their Amazing Bird study. They would go in pairs, with our classroom binoculars, and watch the birds. They enjoyed it so much! One of the books, "Little Kids First Big Book of Birds", was their absolute favorite when they began their bird journals. I know that each of them would love to have a copy to read and admire the beautiful birds in the photographs. It teachers them about how amazing bird bodies are. The other book, "Birds of Louisiana and Mississippi" paired with field binoculars, would bring that love and excitement to them while they are quarantined at home.
These books and the activity of bird watching is something they can share with their families and continue their love of nature and Amazing Birds!
