My Students

My fourth graders love nature and enjoy observing the world around them. I would like to engage them in a project to “Feed the Birds”. This project will teach responsibility, collaboration, and appreciation of the birds native to our local area. We will need a few types of feeders to attract a variety of birds. We will also need a variety of seed to feed the birds. The cost of this project is minimal compared to the rewards my students will receive. Bird watching is a wonderful experience to pass on to my students.

My Project

The students will learn to identify birds native to our area. They will observe how birds adapt during the different seasons. They will work together to put seed into the feeders. They will positively interact with nature. They will learn to identify certain birds by their song. They will understand that some birds feed on the ground while others use the feeders. They will study the life cycle of birds. They will draw and write about their observations. They will keep track of the various birds that visit our feeders. They will share their experiences with the local community. They will photograph the birds to share.
