My students are eager to work with technology and love discussing possibilities of our future related to science. I love watching their eyes get wide when something unexpected happens during a lab or when a complex concept finally clicks for them. Each of my students brings a unique perspective that enriches our class as a whole. I love showing my students who struggle with poverty how valuable they are as individuals and how capable they are to succeed. They all can make a difference.
My students have to overcome trials and obstacles just to be at school every day.
We have a diverse populations of students, with a third Natives, a third Latino, and a third White. I want to give my students an opportunity to participate in STEM inquiry labs. Some of them have never had the opportunity to take higher level courses and this can give them the skills to prepare them for college level courses.
My Project
For this project students will be completing two biotechnology labs. In these labs they will be working collaboratively and solving inquiry problems. Students will play the role of bioengineer to explore the power of enzyme kinetics and optimize conditions that will maximize the rate of sugar conversion for the production of biofuel.
As problem solvers, my students will explore conservation of the Giant Panda through completing an ELISA.
The Giant Panda Problem Kit is the ultimate way to help your students understand physiological systems by combining immunology, reproductive endocrinology, epidemiology, and the unique properties of antibodies that have revolutionized medicine.
These two opportunities allow students to fall in love with the true process of science and inquiry. I am excited to provide these for my students with your help. Thank you for supporting my students in gaining lab skills and doing inquiry in the classroom.
