Biology Labs in a Bag!

Help me give my students the ability to perform (safe) lab activities at home! These materials will allow my students to design & conduct true biology experiments. The electronic balances will allow them to collect quantitative data.

My Students

My students are my why. They are a very diverse set of high school children who all live in a suburban area. I have athletes, musicians, computer programmers, video game lovers, book worms, leaders, budding scientists, etc. They are our future and I want to do my very best to connect with them and help the learn and grow this year! Even though this year will be very different and challenging, I want to provide them the very best virtual learning experience possible.

My Project

An integral part of any science course is learning about and participating in the process of science. Normally, this is accomplished by students actively participating in laboratory experiments and activities. But, because of these unprecedented times during the COVID pandemic, my biology students will be learning virtually from home for the foreseeable future. Thus, they will not be able to participate in traditional laboratory experiments and activities that we would typically do at school. Additionally, when we are able to go back to school (which may or may not happen this year), we will not be able to conduct labs safely and follow social distancing protocol at the same time.

I still want to be able to provide my students the opportunity to carry out biology experiments and activities at home so that they can gain valuable skills in the scientific inquiry process.

These lab bags will allow just that...they will allow my students to design and conduct experiments in the following areas we will study: the properties of water, diffusion and osmosis, enzymes, cell respiration, photosynthesis and ecology. They will also allow my students to collect quantitative data that we can then analyze and practice our math and statistical analysis skills.
