Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My high school is the oldest in Kern County and has a student population near 3,000! Our school has 70% socio-economically disadvantaged students, and Bakersfield High School is the only high school to receive Gold recognition from the California PBIS Coalition.
In this classroom, all students are welcomed to learn and develop their science inquiry skills, curiosity, and excitement towards science.
My classes are have very diverse student population, all who want to be engaged and have real connection to their learning. My aim in my biology course it to make biology fun and relevant to our students.
My Project
My students want to experience science. The constraint of having a limited biological equipment makes data collection difficult. The purpose of my project is have enough lab materials for all students to experience data collection and observation.
The chemicals, digital balances, and spot plates will enhance my students abilities to collect and analyze data.
The skill of data collection and observation analysis is essential to science and having the materials available for students to use will only enhance the student experience in my classroom.
The new NGSS standards requires students to be critical thinkers, make observations, and ask questions about scientific phenomena. The lab equipment I am requesting will help student in their data collection and will enhance their exposure and develop their inquiry skills.
Students will have an opportunity to have access to lab equipment that is currently limited in my classroom.
