The students of Delphos Jefferson High School are in need of programs and projects to help them grow and expand their understanding of the world around them.
As a homogeneous rural community, most of the students have had little to no experience with individuals and habitats that are unlike themselves and the town around them.
Many of my students lack the funds for pay-to-participate programs and often the most enriching experiences are indeed very expensive. Thus, we are seeking assistance in providing an enriching marine biology experience to our students and to help make this amazing educational opportunity more accessible to our student population.
My Project
The ocean has been described as our last frontier. In the near future it will be regarded as a valuable source of food, water, and various chemical substances. There is much yet to be learned about all marine life: the basic processes of its food web, productivity, population and effects of man’s intervention, such as pollution, on these processes.
A field study increases the power of observation and stimulates and improves the quality of experience.
It also provides opportunities for individual exploration and research.
Socially, field studies provide opportunities to develop close personal relationships, informal relationships with people, and cooperation with other members of the group.
