Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Experimentation and investigation are at the center of my 9th grade science classroom. Many of my students enter their freshman year eager and curious to learn about science and lab investigations. Wouldn't it be great if I had the essential items to help them do that?
My classes consist of five inclusion classes, which means that mainstream students and special education students are placed within the same classroom.
Our students are very diverse in their learning styles and the majority of them learn best when they are able to participate in "inquiry-based" activities.
The freshman curriculum for next year will be converted from Environmental Science to Biology. All materials within this project will enrich my "new" Biology lessons and foster excitement and motivation to learn.
My Project
All supplies requested in this donation will help to enrich the new biology curriculum for 9th grade students next year. The light bank will connect students to the importance of plants and the process of photosynthesis. All live specimens (ie. Venus fly traps and dried bees) will provide real life examples of things they might not have ever been exposed to! Lastly, the general laboratory supplies (petri dishes, beakers, gloves) will enable students to perform investigations in order to answer questions about the world they live in.
Most importantly, the donations for this project will improve my classroom by reducing the amount of misconduct issues, because I will be able to provide the appropriate stimulation that ALL my students need.
With less behavioral issues, we can increase our learning about the life sciences. I'm looking forward to seeing my students engaged and more enthusiastic about learning.
