Biography Books Facelift
My students need biographies about the people they want to read about.
Our biography collection needs a little flare. The children want to read books about contemporary people in the news.
Our middle school is a diverse high-need school comprised of over 1,000 students in grades 6 to 8.
Half of our student population currently receives free or reduced priced lunch. Approximately half of our students receive support services in addition to their core classes. Many of our students are not native English speakers. All of the students have been adversely effected by Hurricane Sandy.
Our biography collection could use a facelift. The children want to read the life story of the people they are listening to on the radio and cheering for in the sports arenas. They are tired of the same historical choices when it comes to reading biographies. These books will get the the kids reading.
With the push towards children reading nonfiction it would be nice to have inspirational stories the students can select about people who look like them.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
