My students love to create! Everything from painting, drawing, to constructing dioramas. They love it even more when they can learn the history behind their art projects. Empowering students through art is key to strong student engagement.
Coming from a low income school, it is often hard to get art supplies beyond watercolor paints.
My students love watercolors and have become very creative with their use, but they need more art diversity! They need to be able to use the same media that artist they are researching used. Being able to create art, like the artist they are studying and writing about, brings the experience to life.
My Project
My students will use these materials to deepen their understanding of an artist they are writing a biography about. Having the oil pastels, paint markers, as well as kid friendly biographies will allow them to create a colorful biography. The ability to create art like their artist will allow students to deepen their understanding. They can put themselves in the shoes of the artist and create like they would!
Empowering students through art to deepen their understanding of a subject is key to productive learning!
It makes learning so much fun! This will allow students to take ownership of their learning and deepen their understanding of the subject.
