"Do you have any other biographies I can read?" this is a question I heard from many of my students this past year. Whenever a student asks about a genre, series, or even just a specific book I do my best to try to include it in our classroom library so that they will continue to read!
My students are wonderful, inquisitive 3rd through 5th graders who are in our school's Academically Gifted and Talent Development programs.
They attend a Title 1 school where over 85% of the students are on free or reduced-price lunch. My students are the top achievers in our school despite the circumstances that may surround their daily lives. My classes are some of the most diverse AG and TD students in our district!
My Project
These three different biography sets would allow my students to delve into their interest in biographies. They would be able to use these books to look for Habits of Mind, which are behaviors that most successful people in life exhibit. Students would also be able to use the biographies as we explore the different concepts such as change, conflict, relationships, order, interdependence, and more. My students would have access to these books in the classroom and also be able to check them out to take home and read. Learning about others and how they became successful or well-known will allow my students to see that they too can take advantage of opportunities to be successful in their own lives.
It is my goal to continue adding to our classroom library each year by listening to what my students are interested in and would like to read next.
Please help add these great sets of biographies so that my students will continue to read and request more books!
