Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In a rural area like Yuma, students do not always get the opportunity to get the exciting, rigorous activities available in more populated areas. Yet, within my classroom, we make STEM a hands-on activity where students get first-hand opportunities to experience real-world scenarios.
My students thrive and thirst on new educational opportunities that may be otherwise unavailable.
These students are advanced learners who need further challenges to ensure they are getting the most out of their education. With a diverse population, these students get many perspectives and opportunities to learn from one another.
My Project
Within a science classroom, it is critical that teachers have the supplies they need to make science real for the students. In our case, we are expanding to include middle school on our campus and need to ensure that these students have the necessary supplies for a middle school science classroom.
Hands-on and real world science experimentation is paramount to the success of a science classroom.
Although it is possible for students to learn the information via reading and studying, it doesn't become real (nor is it nearly as fun) without the hands-on activities. These chemicals will allow me to provide the students authentic, real world, lab setting experiences that will enhance their understanding of how chemicals and objects interact with one another.
Ensuring these students have as many opportunities to explore science in different and meaningful ways is what is most important. To ensure these students' desire to pursue STEM careers, we want to provide them these opportunities and these chemicals (and safety equipment) will do just that.
