The students at our school have worked hard to excel and aim for excellence. We have brought our school grade up in the past few years, while overcoming great odds. Each year the community supports where they can but, unfortunately, finances are tight in our area.
Compared to the rest of the county, our school has twice the average percentage of students with special needs, twice the average percentage of students who are homeless, and has the highest poverty rate in the county as 88% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
Currently, our Literacy Coach and I are working to make writing more enjoyable for students at our school. DBQs, also known as Document Based Questions, give students an opportunity to explore history and social studies, analyze documents, and write analytical essays in an enjoyable way!
Having a comb binding machine will give me the opportunity to create a living document for the students, that can grow as the school year goes on, as well as a something the students can be proud of.
It is important to me, as an educator, to teach my students to be proud of their work, and be able to reflect on growth as the school year passes.
Having a binding machine will allow students to keep track of their DBQs in an organized manner, all in one place. As we continue to accumulate the packets, they will stay safe in the comb binding.
Additionally, homework packets are much harder to lose when they are bound together! Having a binding machine will allow us to add to our weekly homework then reflect and continue learning!
