This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
On to year four of teaching! I have learned so much over the past three years, and I cannot wait for another successful school year. This year, I will be teaching tenth and eleventh English Language Arts with scholars that are eager to learn. I want to try and make my class as engaging and energetic as I can to make sure my scholars thrive.
Despite how excited my students may be about their education, many of them come to school with little to none of the necessary school supplies needed to be successful.
I work in a Title I school where my students qualify for the free or reduced-price lunch program. Even though my students may deal with terrifying real-life circumstances, they still come to school ready to work and ready to be challenged to the next level. My scholars never cease to amaze me with their wit, charm, and amazing ideas!
My Project
My students need Oxford twin pocket folders to transport assignments. I often have students ask me for a folder, and I only have about one left. They use it to carry assignments back and forth to class.
We are also asking for binder clips and paper clips to help organize copies and documents in the classroom.
When extra copies are organized neatly together, it makes it much easier for me to find them when a student requests a copy.
Additionally, we are asking for snacks. We use snacks as a reward for a job well done, or as a motivator to stay on task. I will often hand out candy, such as the Sour Punch Twists or Airheads, to students as they are working. The larger items such as Frito-Lay chips, are given as a raffle reward.
