Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My fourth graders publish 7 different types of writing throughout the school year. This includes personal narratives, non-narratives, persuasive letters, poems, literary essays, historical fiction and realistic fiction. Each student goes through the entire writing process to complete each piece. At the end of these month-long cycles we celebrate their "published" work by sharing it with others. This can take the form of poetry slams, sidewalk chalk writing, read alouds, writing parades or book signings. Our events are always well attended by parents and community members. The published pieces usually consist of beautifully illustrated covers and pages upon pages of pure, unfiltered student writing. Holding this immensely delicate package together is usually a few staples. After all the showcasing and celebrating, our hard work starts to literally tear at the seams. We need a heavy duty book binder to truly give our work the finished look it deserves. These plastic sleeves and spiral spines will protect the work and make it all the more appealing for others to read. The best part is... we will send you our first anthology of stories bound together with our new book binder! This way you can see for yourself how valuable, authentic and special our writing really is!
