Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach at a Title 1 high school that has a focus on academic excellence. We host a diverse urban population. Despite economic disadvantages, my students are eager and hungry to learn. They are energetic and seeking for ways to engage with the world around them.

During this year I about 360 students will cross the threshold of my classroom.

I want to to give them an unforgettable learning experience. Each student is special and unique, the learning environment should reflect this as well.

My Project

You can and should judge a book by its cover. Have you ever been in a class where you were forced to read something you just didn't like? Did you ever ask yourself, why can't I just pick out my own book? If this has ever been you, than please help my students avoid a similar fate and help to fund this project. The wide selection of Young Adult novels will be used to engage students in Book Speed Dating. Students will be able to "date" a selection of books and rate their experiences before making the huge commitment on which book he or she would like to spend some extended time with.
