Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with an amazing group of students from an amazing neighborhood. Most of my students are coming from homes that speak primarily Spanish. They love coming to school, and both my students and their families care about their education. In addition my students have special needs and often need extra support with reading, writing, and math. Simple tasks can be challenging and frustrating, but they teach me on a daily basis about perseverance and what it means to give it your all!
My Project
Rarely in urban classrooms do we get actually workbooks for our students to use. Instead, teachers make copies of all of the assignments that their students need to complete. This results in lots of loose papers kept in different places, often unorganized, and many times these papers end up getting lost.
While I cannot give my students official workbooks, this will allow them to have their materials in an organized way, preventing papers from getting torn or lost.
I would love to be able to create writing journals for my students that actually hold their papers all together in an organized way, instead of having to worry about papers getting pulled out of a stapled pack or falling out of their folders. These materials would allow me to create books for students to use for math review, reading comprehension practice, and daily writing.
Right now, my students keep their papers in cubbies, but they often get shoved in, around other materials, which results in them being crumpled in the back, ripped and torn. By binding their materials, I would be able to keep all of their papers in order, kept in a nice organized manor, and keep from having to make additional copies when papers get lost.
