Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with special education students. They range in grade level from TK-5th grade. I have 23 students on my caseload and it is growing everyday. My students' diagnoses/disabilities include Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Dyslexia, Optic Atrophy, Alternating Esotropia, Hyperopia, Astigmatism, Hearing Loss, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Specific Learning Disability, and Emotional Disturbance.
My students have amazing attitudes despite their disabilities and everything they have to overcome in daily life.
They put a smile on their face everyday and face a world that does not always treat them as they should. They all have their days when their undesired behaviors get the best of them but with support the days are becoming fewer.
I have many students who have a less than functional home life. I have students from broken families, the foster care system, have at least one parent incarcerated, a restraining order on a parent or a parent that has passed away. My students deserve to feel safe and comfortable when they come to school.
My Project
I teach special education students in a resource setting. I give my students tools to succeed in their general education classroom. We work on reading, math, organization and social skills.
My students would benefit from binders to keep their work and resources for my class all in one place.
This will allow me to work on organizational skills in my classroom without disrupting what they are doing in their general education classroom. When a student arrives in my room, they will be able to grab their binder and find their seat. The binder will have all they need to make the most of their time in my room.
There are multiple sizes of binder in this project because my students all have different needs. There are students that only need support in one subject and they will benefit from a smaller binder and I also have students that come to me for maximum support and they would need a bigger binder.
